Chapter – 9

Baba Kinaram inspired people to walk through the path of Mukthi, in order to get rid of the sufferings of worldly bondage.  It is believed that whoever takes a bath in the Kreemkund and worships Baba Kinaram would get their desires fulfilled.  The significance of Kreemkund is beyond description; Kreemkund Sarovar got its name from the sacred syllables of Ma Hingalaj.  Baba Kinaram’s Samadhi is located in this Ashram close to the shrine of Ma Hingalaj and there is a well in the Ashram which has medicinal properties.  It is believed that King Harishchandra’s son got bitten by serpent near the Kreem Kund.  There is an earthen lamp kept glowing for several years in this Ashram, the flame was brought from the Mahashmashan Manikarnika Ghat.  The sacred ashes offered in this Ashram have high medicinal values and treated as auspicious.  There is Samadhis of eleven illustrious Siddhas who are considered as Ekadhasha Rudras near this Kreem Kund.  Baba Kinaram is believed as an incarnation of Lord Vaidhyanath of Varanasi, he was famous for his kindness and humility.  The childless couples who visit his Samadhis would attain offspring, and severe illnesses would get relieved after having a dip in this Kreekund.  Lord Shiva was the prime Aghori in the Aghori Sampradaya whose dwelling place is Mahashmashana, the practice of Aghori is the unison with the Bramham, it breaks the difference between soul and supreme soul with the intense practice and devotion, it is a practice to get rid of illusion and darkness of ignorance.  The practice of Aghori requires extreme control over senses and strict celibacy.

Baba Kinaram who was a great Siddha was loved by a large number of people for his kindness.  He attained Maha Samadhi in the year 1826.

Chapter – 8

Baba Kaluram took Kinnaram to Kreekund, and said “ Kinaram, my work is over,  I was waiting for your arrival.  This divine place should not be empty.  This is one of the sanctified thrones of Aghori worship, you need not go anywhere, you have to stay here and continue your spiritual practices. In due course of time, all your spiritual practices will reach the higher state,” It is believed that Baba Kaluram who was the essence of Rishi Dhaththathreya gave Dheeksha to Kinaramji.  Usually, after the demise of the preceptor, all the miraculous deeds performed by him would come into circulation through his devotees and disciples. Baba Kaluram attained Maha Samadhi, Kinaramji could witness the bright ray of light raised from the head of Baba Kaluram and disappeared in the sky. Aghoris are considered as Siddhas,  they perform spiritual practices in the funeral grounds, in the sense, they have won over the evil spirits.  The Thamasic Sadhakas usually conduct black magic and people are scared of meeting them.  Though Baba Kinaram was an Aghori, he was much loved by the locals; he is highly devoted and kind to people.  The Kreekund is famous for Aghori practices because of Baba Kinaram, even today many people visit this Kreekund to get rid of illnesses.  People who visit Kreekund believe that it brings auspiciousness in their life, they conduct wide celebrations on Bhadrapad Shuklashashti day, and musicians arrive here to perform music on this day.  Later, this practice has stopped.

Kinaramji in his book “Viveksar” mentioned about himself, all those Vibhoothivarnnan of Bhagavad Gita “ I am the soul, I am the creator and preserver, I am the destroyer as well, I am the living and non-living things, I continue to take birth and undergoes death. I am the trinities; I represent ocean and tides, fragrances and flowers, till and oil, I represent worldly bondage, Mukthi, the nectar of immortality, and Halahal poison too. I represent knowledge and ignorance, meditation, light, and darkness as well,”  In this way Baba Kinaram represents all those living and non-living, good and evil in the Universe.  The famous saints of Samadhis  of Kaluram, Kinaram, Beejaram, Dhautharam, Gayibiram, Bhavaniram, Jainarayan Ram, Mathuraram, Jabardhasthram, Gauriram, Dinrairam, Sarayuram, Dalsingharam,  and Rajeshwaram, are located in Kreekund.

Chapter – 7

Baba Kinaram visited Himalaya, and continued meditation for several days, after returning from Himalaya,  he suddenly appeared in Kashi.  Those days a Mahasiddhapurusha Baba Kaluram was used to stay close to Kreekund.  He used to feed the mortals in the Mahashmashana with the chickpeas.  One day Babaji arrived at the funeral place and saw Baba Kaluram was sitting in the funeral ground surrounded by skulls.  Baba Kinaram with his Manthrasiddhi put a halt on this activity, Baba Kaluram understood it was Kinaram who has put a sudden stop to his work, and he was waiting for his arrival so long.  Baba Kinaram understood the divinities of Baba Kaluram, he moved to Baba Kaluram and spoke with lots of affection “ Babaji, are you playing with the mortals? Go and take your seat in your Ashram,”  Baba Kaluram wanted to test Baba Kinaram and said “ I am feeling hungry now. Can you feed me with my favorite fish?”  Baba Kinaram said “Certainly Maharaj, I can feed you with whatever you ask for,” He looked at the waters of Ganga and said, “ Gangiya, kindly give me some fish to feed Baba Kaluram.”  Soon fishes shoved from the waters and landed at the feet of Baba Kinaram. Later, Beejaram cooked the fish and the three saints consumed it happily.

Baba Kaluram looked at a dead body floating on the waters of Ganga, he said “ Look, a dead body is floating,” Baba Kinaram said “ It is not a dead body, it is alive,”  Baba Kaluram said, “ If it is alive, bring him here.”  Kinaramji called out for the floating body “Where are you going, come here.” Soon that body landed near the stairs, Kinaramji said “Stand up. Go to your home now.”  The person who was floating in the water came to the shore walking and followed the order,  Baba Kaluram felt immensely pleased with the divinity of Baba Kinaramji.

Chapter – 6

Baba Kinaram and Beejaram arrived in Girinar Parvath.  The Mount Abu, Hingalaj, Pushkar, Veerbhumi, Kamakhya and Himalaya and various shrines of this place are the land of saints and holy men, these places are referred to Karmabhumi/Thapovan of Sanyasin.  Even today, many holy men are taking Tapasya in subtle forms in these sacred lands.  BabaKinaram said “ Beejaram I am going up to the hill, you have to wait for me here until I return.  One thing you should remember that you should take Biksha from three houses only, not more than that. And you have to manage with whatever you receive as alms in the three houses, never go to the fourth house for alms.”

It was believed that Rishi Dhaththathreya as living Lord in all four Yugas.   Baba Kinaram met Rishi Dhaththathreya and attained the knowledge in Yogic Practices.  It is mentioned in scriptures that Baba Gorakhnath of Nath sampradaya,  and  Sant Eknath of Varkari Sampradaya met Rishi Dhaththathreya in Girinar Parvath and attained knowledge in various fields.

After some time Baba Kinaram and Beejaram arrived in Junarghad which was under the rule of Nawab, Saints are prohibited to beg for alms in this city, whoever begs for alms would be imprisoned, the person sent to the jail should work on grinding flour.  Beejaram was imprisoned for begging alms, he was arrested, Kinaramji was anxious about the missing of Beejaram.  Babaji with his Manthrasiddhi understood all that happened, he too went for begging alms, soon he was imprisoned.  Babaji saw many saints and holy men were grinding flour in the prison, Babaji was ordered to do the same work, he gave a hard hit on the grinding stone and said: “child, do your duty.” Soon the grinding stone started rotating its own; he did the same to the grinding stones of other saintly people.  The senior officer got stunned at this and informed Nawab.  Soon an order was issued by Nawab to produce Baba Kinaram in his assembly.  In fact, Nawab was alarmed of the incident that took place in the prison and scared that this Saint should not curse him.  He took all the effort to please Baba Kinaram in his assembly, a tray full of various precious ornaments was offered, Babaji took a mouthful and spit it on the floor and said “ It is neither sweet nor sour. What should I do with this?” Nawab understood  that Babaji has no interest in valuables, he said: “ Babaji I will give whatever you ask for.”  Babaji understood the anxiety of the Nawab.  Babaji said “ Saint and holy men are destined to beg for alms and fill their stomach, it is their part of discipline, but it is illegal in your city, I agree with this order.  You do one thing, now onwards you implement a rule to provide free flour to these Saints and holy men so that they need not go for begging alms.  Otherwise, cancel this order right now and let the Sanyasins beg for alms and live on it.”  Nawab accepted the condition put forward by  Kinaramji.

Nawab had no offspring; he arrived in Ma Hingalaj Shakthipeedam, where Baba conducts his worship, eventually, he was blessed with a child.  There was a lady undercover on her saree used to bring a sumptuous meal to Babaji on regular basis,  one day Babaji asked her whereabouts, but she was not willing to reveal it,  Babaji said he will not accept her meal provided.   Immediately the lady gave Dharshan as Ma Hingalaj who is the presiding deity of Aghora Vidhya.

One day Baba Kinaram said, “ If you are planning to remarry, I have to leave you alone, I will conduct a search of    another preceptor.” Sant Shivaramji said “ Ok. leave right now. I do not want to see selfish people like you. Do as you wish.”  It was an appropriate moment for him to leave his Guru, to avoid further displeasure between them.  He immediately left the Ashram of Sant Shivaramji.

Baba Kinaram arrived in a new village named Nayidi.  He saw an old lady crying sitting under the tree.  Kinaramji asked her the reason for her distress, she said: “ The Zamindar of the village asked me to pay off the debts, I am not in a position to do that so he took my son with him and ill-treating him.” Kinaramji asked her “do you think everything will be alright if you sit and cry, come with me, I will save your child from Zamindar.”  The old lady said “ Maharaj, he is a very cruel person, it is difficult to calm him without paying off the debt. It is an unnecessary risk for you.”  Kinaram got angry and said, “Come with me, I will see what kind of Zamindar he is.”  The old lady brought Baba Kinaram to the house of Zamindar.  Kinaramji saw the child was tied into a pole and made him sit in the scorching heat.  Kinaramji said “ Zamindar Sahab, kindly leave the child of this old lady,” Zamindar said “ She has to pay off my debts.  Ask her to pay off the debts and take away her child.” Babaji said “ See, the place where the child is sitting, all your money is kept there safely.  Bring any laborer to dig the place and take your money.”  Babaji said to the child “ Son, come here.” Zamindar could not believe the words of Babaji, but he thought Babaji must have seen money with his divine power.  Soon Zamindar brought a laborer and asked him to dig the ground.  Zamindar got shocked to see the money; he got a large amount of money from the ground.  He has fallen at the feet of Baba Kinaram and begged for forgiveness.   Babaji said to old lady “Mother, please take care of your child. I have paid several years of debt,” The old lady was stunned, she was too emotional and said “ This child is yours from today onwards, I do not even know whether I could make the payment of the debt in this life, otherwise this child will remain in the custody of the Zamindar forever.  Therefore, this boy will be at your service from today onwards, his life will become fruitful in this manner.” Baba Kinaram was not willing to take the child with him, he persuaded the old lady to keep her child with her so that he will be helpful in her old age, but she was not agreed to it.  Finally, Baba Kinaram accepted the plea of the old lady and thought it must be the wish of the Lord as well.  The boy started living with Baba Kinaram and he became one of the important disciples of Baba Kinaramji, later he came to know as Beejaram.

There are several mutts all over India, each Mutt has its own disciplines, monastic sect, and  Dharmic rites, and these Aghoris are one among them,  the follower of an Aghori sect is called Aghorin.   Pandit Gangashankar Mishra describes, “ Aghora Thanthra is a Shivaite philosophy, one of the five faces of  Lord Shiva is addressed as Aghora who has pleasant appearance,  saints who worship the Aghora face of Lord Shiva is called Aghori, he holds skull in his hand, so he is also called Kapalin, sacred scriptures describe elaborately about the Aghora face of Lord Shiva.  Previously Aghoramutt was located in Bodhgaya, Girinarparvath, Mount Abu, Hinglaji, Bengal, Bihar, Utter Pradesh, Ajmeer, Marward, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Assam.   The Aghoris of Bengal and Assam worship Goddess Shakti as the presiding deity,  Aghoris of  Bihar and Utter Pradesh worship Lord Shiva as the presiding deity".  Baba Kinaram performed various miracles in his lifetime, and he had several disciples, there are Samadhis of eleven illustrious Aghoris in his Ashram in Kreemkund known as Ekadhasha Rudra.

Baba Kinaram after receiving Dheeksha from Sant Shivaramji, he rigorously continued the practice of meditation, after serving Guru he utilized all his valuable time in the practice of meditation.  Suddenly an unfortunate event took place, Sant Shivaramji’s wife expired.  He was a Grihastha as well as an ascetic, he was tortured by the absence of his wife, he found it difficult to perform the daily rite in her absence.  He thought with the remarriage he could bring stability in his life.  He discussed the same with his favorite disciple Kinaram, he said “ Maharaj, it is not graceful to remarry at this age, it is good if you spend the rest of your life in worship of Lord and recitation of scriptures.”  Sant Shivaramji was not expecting this answer from Kinaram. He was quite displeased and expressed his frustration “ None of my daily rites is taking place without her, I am not in a position to take care of all the responsibilities of the home,”  In this way, the disciple and preceptor kept arguing on this matter.

Chapter – 3

Once, the fortress of King of Varanasi is located in the Southern area of Kashi, was filled with the vibrant  Vedic chants, priestly classes were chanting Chathurveda, other than the locals of Varanasi were completely packed in the patio,  and there was a huge crowd of saints and holy men.  It was the grand opening ceremony of the shrine of Lord Shiva built by King Chethsingh, a marvelous Linga was consecrated to install in the sanctum.  King Chethsingh was already ordered his men that not to allow any individual who found suspicious or strange.  Kings of Kashi are ardent of devotees of Lord Shiva, even the Kings were welcome by the people with the greetings “ Har Har Mahadev”, they are considered as the representative of Lord Shiva and highly revered in the society.  Suddenly the King Chethsingh’s voice echoed all over the place, “ Who is the chandala/person from low rank? Who let him inside? throw him out immediately.” The crowd was alarmed; they saw Baba Kinaram was standing before the King.  Many of the king's men were moved towards Baba Kinaram, he said “ You have insulted me, you will suffer the consequence of it, never forget that you have honored the foreigners, and one day you will be treated in the same way you are treating me now.  One day these foreigners will throw you out of your fortress,” King Chethsingh slowly got out his shock.  Seeing the angry face of the King, the men were dragged Baba Kinaram from the fortress, Baba Kinaram said: “You will see, this is my curse upon you, you will be thrown out of your Kingdom, this fortress will be occupied by bats and pigeons and your clan will destroy.”  Surprisingly still this fortress remains as a mark of the curse of Baba Kinaram.

Munshi Sadanand Bhakshi entered in the fortress, he was a great devotee of Baba Kinaram, he stopped entering into the fortress, he respectfully took Baba Kinaram with him and dropped him in his hermitage.  He came back to the fortress and understood all that happened to Baba Kinaram.  Whatever happened was truly unfortunate, Baba Kinaram’s curse will not go waste, he was worried if the curse happened in real the sacred city of Kashi and its people have to suffer a lot.    Baba Kinaram is a Siddhapurusha, all the locals treat him with great respect and honor, he must have arrived with a specific objective, none of the curses of the Yogis will go waste, so it is definite that Chethsingh had to face aftereffects of it.  The next day Munshiji came to Kreekund where Baba Kinaram performs ablutions,  he begged to forgive King Chethsingh for his mistake, Babaji said “ Whatever came out of my mouth will happen certainly, I cannot take it back, he has to suffer the  evil effects of the curse, he became too haughty now, unfortunately, it is the time of his destruction”  Munshiji was alarmed and said “ Baba, what will happen to us? We wholly depend on the service to Kingdom, kindly shower your mercy upon the King,”  Babaji said “Yogi's curse never go waste, I can understand your qualms, your clan will not have any harm, make sure if you add ‘Anand’ at the end of the name successors in your clan, no harm will happen. You can leave now.”  Gradually, the curse started working on King Chethsingh, he has to run away from the Shivala fortress. The kingdom was brought  under British rule.

Chapter – 1

Baba Kinaram was born in the year 1601, in the Badhra Month, on a Krishnapaksha Chathurdhashi day in a village called Ramghat, Chandhauli in Varanasi.  His father Sri Akbar Singh was Raghuvamshi, he had three children and Kinaram was the eldest one.  He was too devoted to Lord Rama from the early years of childhood, whenever time permits; he engages in Rambhajan with his friends.   He was grown up as Vairagin from childhood.  Those days the practice of childhood marriages were very common, Kinaram has to agree for marriage at the age of 12 due to the constant pressure from the parents.  After three years of marriage, it was decided to bring the child bride to home, previous day of journey he asked his mother to feed with the sweet rice cooked in milk, mother got very angry and said “ You have to bring the bride tomorrow, are you asking me to prepare sweet rice with milk?”  There was a practice of consuming this sweet milk rice after any inauspicious event like death.  Kinaram was adamant; finally, his mother had to feed him with the milk rice.  The house was all prepared to bring the child bride, the next day a message arrived from the house of the bride that she was expired.  His mother could not control tears, she lamented over the death of her daughter-in-law saying “ This boy is too adamant, who will eat this sweet rice cooked in milk on this auspicious hours,” Kinaram said “ Mother, I ate the sweet rice only after her death. It was not before her death, if you don’t have faith upon me, ask father.  She died yesterday evening.  I ate the milk rice in the night.”  Gradually, the news spread all over the village that he was aware of the death of his wife in advance. They were surprised how Kinaram came to know about the death of his wife.  After this incident, once again his parents decided to find a suitable bride for Kinaram, but he was strictly refused to marry.  The family put extreme pressure on him to get married soon and settle in his life.  This made him leave home forever, in search of supreme consciousness which is the highest of knowledge.
